Laurie Immekus’s Cartoons: 1 to 9(Copyright Laurie L. Immekus, 1991, 2008. All rights reserved.) I have used happy faces and
stick figures for my spiritual cartoons because they represent awareness of
self but do not become too human: they could be any type of being. When I had my light experience
in 1990 I went to Heaven. It was the Heaven of my belief—right out of A
Course in Miracles. I drew God as a circle because I experienced God as
Being Everything that Is: Oneness Itself. I drew a happy face on God because
I experienced God as Being only Love, nothing that is not Love. I drew us as
being inside of that Love, no matter where we believe we are. We are created
in Love, as Love, and we are Love. During my experience, the
first thing I noticed was that I was immersed in Love and that Love was God.
I was not separate from God in any way, and neither was anyone else. “When I
went to Heaven, you were there” means that you were there with me. God showed
me that everyone who ever lived, who was living now, and who would ever live,
anywhere, was also right there at this moment, and this moment never ends. We
may believe we are here in this world walking, talking, and doing, but in
actuality, we are right in the middle of God. That is the only Reality: God. That was my experience, and I
believe it. But I do not want to negate anyone else’s experience. We are all
having the experience that we need to have, right now. It’s always for our
own healing, our own awakening process. Everything is in Divine
Order. |

Cartoon One: Three drawings
representing God and the Sonship. Figure 1 is God holding and loving the
Sonship, who is asleep. Figure 2 is God communicating to one of the Sonship,
representing revelation. Figure 3 is God holding the Sonship while two minds
are having a miracle communication with each other. This also refers to ACIM as
follows in the box below. Figure 2 is revelation and figure 3 is a miracle. |

Revelation induces complete but temporary suspension of doubt and fear. It reflects the original form of communication between God and his creations, involving the extremely personal sense of creation sometimes sought in physical relationships. Physical closeness cannot achieve it. Miracles, however, are genuinely interpersonal, and result in true closeness to others. Revelation unites you directly with God. Miracles unite you directly with your brother. (2nd edition, T1.II.1.1-6) |

Cartoon Two: This picture
represents what I became aware of from my 1990 light experience. The people
at the bottom, “People of worldly awareness,” represent us all while we are
looking for a way out of the dream. The next level up from that is the “People
of ‘rising up’ awareness.” They represent us when we have found a path back
to the awareness to God’s Presence, to the awareness of what we truly are.
They are within the channel called “The Holy Spirit.” It doesn’t matter what
you call that channel, but basically it is the bridge back to awareness.
Within the channel between God and people is the Christ Awareness: it holds
the channel open for others to join in the awareness that they too are the
Christ Awareness. This also refers to ACIM as
follows in the box below: |

"No
man cometh unto the Father but by me" does not mean that I am in any way
separate or different from you except in time, and time does not really
exist. The statement is more meaningful in terms of a vertical rather than a
horizontal axis. You stand below me and I stand below God. In the process of
"rising up," I am higher because without me the distance between
God and man would be too great for you to encompass. I bridge the distance as
an elder brother to you on the one hand, and as a Son of God on the other. My
devotion to my brothers has placed me in charge of the Sonship, which I
render complete because I share it. This may appear to contradict the
statement "I and my Father are one," but there are two parts to the
statement in recognition that the Father is greater. Revelations
are indirectly inspired by me because I am close to the Holy Spirit, and
alert to the revelation-readiness of my brothers. I can thus bring down to
them more than they can draw down to themselves. The Holy Spirit mediates
higher to lower communication, keeping the direct channel from God to you
open for revelation. (2nd edition, T1.II.4 and T1.II.5:1-3) |

Cartoon Three: The eye that
sees the world through the ego sees only egos. Each one believes he is
separate, and therefore, enemy to the others. This is based on a quote from
ACIM as follows in the box below. |
|
|
|
In the longitudinal or horizontal plane the recognition of the
equality of the members of the Sonship appears to involve almost endless
time. (2nd edition, T1.II.6:2) |

Cartoon Four: The eye that
sees the world through the ego sees the body having experiences in the world,
and in time. It calls that “being realistic.” This is based on a quote from
ACIM as follows in the box below. |

3) The Eye of the Heart sees through the Spirit. It is capable of vision,
which looks on the bodies in the dream and sees the Spirit of those people,
knowing they are real in Oneness. This is based on a quote from
ACIM as follows in the box below. |

4) The Eye of the Heart uses Vision rather than seeing. It sees there is no time.
That the body, also called the figure in the dream, can be seen with Love,
thus uniting it with All That Is. This is based on a quote from
ACIM as follows in the box below. |

The miracle shortens time by collapsing it, thus eliminating
certain intervals within it. (2nd edition, T1.II.6:9) |

Cartoon Seven: The three
figures here are a member of the Sonship who is waking up to what he is, JC,
who is symbolizing our Higher Self, and a person who is ”calling for love.”
The person who is calling for love is also a member of the Sonship, and is
exactly where he is supposed to be, because everything is in Divine Order. This is based on a quote from
ACIM as follows in the box below. |
|
|
|
When you offer a miracle to any of my brothers, you do it to yourself and me. The reason you come
before me is that I do not need miracles for my own Atonement, but I stand at
the end in case you fail temporarily. My part in the Atonement is the
canceling out of all errors that you could not otherwise correct. (2nd
edition T1.III.1:2-4) |

|
|
|
|
|
|
Cartoon Eight: This is the
first figure from graphic seven who is now seeing even more about himself
with the help of his Higher Self. Again, these cartoons are mostly symbolic.
He is looking into the miracle mirror and he sees that he is God’s Child,
meaning when he experiences a miracle he realizes he is One with All That Is. This is based on a quote from
ACIM as follows in the box below. |
|
|
|
When you have been restored to the recognition of your
original state, you naturally become part of the Atonement yourself. (2nd
edition T1.III.1:5) |

Cartoon Nine: According to the
concordance, this is the only place in ACIM where it uses the phrase, “The
Great Crusade.” It brought to my thoughts the memory of the Christian Crusades,
which started in the 11th century. This is a very different
crusade; it’s not against anything, it’s only for each person’s
awakening. We are each in charge of our own awakening. No body is forcing The
Great Crusade. I saw it as a joyous
experience. Hence, the dancing. We are dancing in unison, as if in a cosmic
can-can dance. This is based on a quote from
ACIM as follows in the box below. |
|
|
|
As you share my unwillingness to accept error in yourself and
others, you must join the great crusade to correct it; listen to my voice,
learn to undo error and act to correct it. (2nd edition T1.III.1:6) |
